References corrosive media
The occurrence of corrosive or abrasive media, especially in the tobacco, steel, chemical and petrochemical industries, often limits the choice of applicable stainless steel – in particular for the expansion joint´s bellows.
kompaflex multi-ply expansion joints, whose innermost layers comprise of corrosion resistant Nickel alloys like Inconel or Hastelloy, provide a perfect solution. The remaining layers of the bellow with no medium contact can be built with normal stainless steel. Thereby an effective and simultaneously cost-efficient corrosion barrier is created. Additionally, the bellows´ tight-ness can be checked through a permanent leakage monitoring reliably and during operation.
Abrasive media
The occurrence of abrasive media requires an appropriate choice of material as well. Abra-sion resistant material like Creusabo can be employed. To resist the abrasive crude oil in refineries, expansion joints with an inner Hexmesh-structure are used (FCCU expansion joints for fluid catalytic cracking sytsems).
By using fabric tape sealing, damage of expansion joint bellows can be prevented e.g. in coal dust pipes in power plants. At the same time, the expansion joint´s flexibility must always be provided.
